Wellbeing
At Good Shepherd, we are dedicated to providing robust wellbeing support and enriching learning opportunities for our students, staff, and the wider school community. This commitment helps us build positive relationships within a safe and supportive environment. We view Student Wellbeing as fundamental to successful learning and follow the guidelines outlined in ‘eXcel: Wellbeing for Learning’ to ensure a comprehensive whole-school approach.
Creating and maintaining a respectful and secure school environment is a top priority for us. We achieve this through explicit social and emotional learning programs, including The Resilience Project and the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum. Our approach is further supported by school leaders and members of the Student Representative Council, as well as a Foundation to Year 6 Buddy Program that fosters peer support.
We also participate in nationally recognised days of action and awareness, such as Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week, Bullying: No Way! Week, R U OK? Day, and the National Day for Daniel, to promote child safety awareness. For students needing a quiet space, ‘The Hub’ is available during recess and lunch times. Additionally, our Student of the Week awards recognise and celebrate students who exemplify our core values: respect, doing our best, care and acceptance, honesty, and responsibility.
Our school-wide focus on teaching social and emotional competencies enhances resilience, provides positive coping skills, and builds meaningful relationships, ensuring a nurturing and inclusive environment for all learners.

Voice and Leadership
School Captains
At Good Shepherd School, we are proud to appoint four School Captains each year, who are elected by their peers based on their ability to uphold and embody our school values. These student leaders play a crucial role in representing our school and fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
The responsibilities of our School Captains include:
Leading by Example: They set a positive example for their fellow students by demonstrating our core values of respect, integrity, and responsibility in all their actions.
Organising and Facilitating Events: They help plan and lead school events, activities, and assemblies, ensuring these occasions reflect our school's spirit and values.
Supporting and Mentoring: They provide support and guidance to other students, helping to address concerns and encourage a sense of community and belonging.
Representing the School: They act as ambassadors for Good Shepherd, representing the school at various functions and engaging with parents, staff, and the wider community.
Our School Captains are chosen through a democratic process where their peers vote based on their leadership qualities and commitment to our school values. This ensures that our captains are truly reflective of the qualities we aspire to cultivate in our student body.
